DEMONSTRATION OCTOBER 14 2011

JOYCE SCHLEINIGER   is COAL'S DEMONSTRATOR for OCTOBER

Joyce Schleiniger-Artist and Educator
Budding Brazilian Artist and Educator: At the age of 15, Joyce switched from Piano to Art., when she took the Brazilian State Exam to enter University, one of only 5 students selected that year in sculpture. At the age of 19 she graduated, and became a University instructor, spending the next 17 years as a professor in several Universities. Joyce earned her Master of Education degree, the day before she left her home country, for good.
Realizing the limitations for commercial success, due primarily to the economics of Brazil, Joyce immigrated to Encinitas, California, with her daughter, in 1985. Upon her arrival, Joyce provided a home, earning and saving her incomes, investing in the American dream, to build their futures.

Professional-Commercial Success!
Professional-Commercial Success: In 1989, Joyce settled into her present home, and studio/gallery to build her art business into the commercial success it is today. The studio has expanded into it’s present form through many designs and re-designs. Just like her studio, Joyce’s art is a planned work in progress, to meet and stay ahead of the local markets, and needs of her many clients. Flexibility is the key to success.

* When the markets wanted art for the home; fountains, vases, wall relief, and sculptures stimulates the local markets.
* Hand impressions for the mothers, and grandmothers are an instant hit for the gifts that define a family’s beginnings.
* Teaching - adult education for budding sculptors, and private classes at the studio still provides artists a venue to grow, and maybe also to become commercial artists.
* Tile design - One of Joyce’s students introduced her to her employer, which was looking for Joyce’s talents and abilities. Joyce become the primary designer of their tiles. As an independent contractor to Oceanside Glasstile, she designs for their glass and ceramic production. Joyce also has her own line of custom designs, for the home and architectural markets.

Demonstration will take place on October 14, 2011, 1:30 to 3:30 at Calavara Hills Community Center, 2997 Glasgow Drive, Carlsbad.

FEATURED ARTIST SEPTEMBER 2011

RITA PACHECO is COAL'S Featured Artist for September.

Rita Pacheco began her formal training Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where she majored in illustration. Following a career creating perspective renderings and as an architectural draftsman, Rita spent the years her two children were growing up painting decorative murals in homes and businesses. For the past seven years though, she has been focusing on painting with oil "en plein air", and in her Carlsbad studio.

Her oil paintings have won numerous awards, including recently "First Place" at the Southern Califorina Plein Air Painters Association. About Rita Pacheco’s first place pro entry winner, “Batiquitos Morning,” this years judge Dave Rahn noted, “This beautifully captures the light and draws the eye into the reflection at the back of the painting—beautiful work.”.  Also Rita was thrilled to win "Best of Show" in April from the San Clemente Art Association for her 6" by 6" oil painting titled "Three Fishermen", depicting a friend, his step son and her husband on the Saddlebag Lake, in California.

Her experience in architectural rendering, and the sheer enjoyment she feels when painting from life facilitate both the accuracy and strength of her dynamic landscape, figurative and still life paintings! Rita was featured in the Press Enterprise "Artist Spotlight", in June, 2008 and in January of 2009 for her work juried into the "Artscape Fall and Winter Exhibition" held at the Riverside County Administration Building. She and her work were pictured in the Winter 2009 issue of American Artist Workshop magazine. In February of this year, she was featured in a press release in the Orange County Register for her "Best of Show" at the San Clemente Art Gallery!

Show runs thru Sunday, October 2.

DEMONSTRATION SEPTEMBER 9 2011

PAT KELLY will be COAL'S Demonstrator on Friday September 9.

Patricia M. Kelly's paintings are true reflections of her personality as well as her interests. A California native born in La Jolla, Kelly has spent her life enjoying the beauty of the San Diego coastline and backcountry, capturing it on canvas. Known especially for her plein air work, She is a California Art Club Gold Medalist and has participated in the CAC Mission San Juan Capistrano plein air event, Maurice Braun Festival, and Tucson Plein Air.

The journey of every artist is unique. Kelly's includes some twists and turns, resulting in a great deal of breadth and versatility. In addition to her reputation as a plein air painter, she is well known in the Western Art genre and has won numerous awards. Her paintings have been featured on the covers of many publications, including Western Horseman Magazine. She has exhibited in Trappings of the American West at the Coconino Center for the Arts, and the Mountain Oyster Club.

Kelly's most recent work has taken her in a new direction - still life painting. "To be done well, still life painting requires tremendous technical skill, yet it can also be very intellectual. This enables a dialogue about life and art that invites us to contemplate - to go deeper."

After receiving a BA in Visual Art at UCSD, Kelly settled down with her family in the countryside near Ramona Ca. She currently teaches both plein air and still life painting at the Athenaeum Art and Music Library in La Jolla. She is an Artist Member of The California Art Club and is represented by the Santa Ysabel Art Gallery in Santa Ysabel California.

Demonstration will take place on Friday Sept. 9 2011, 1:30 to 3:30 at Calavara Hills Community Center, 2997 Glasgow Drive, Carlsbad.

FEATURED ARTIST JULY 2011

##################################
BONNIE GLEASON is COAL's featured artist for July.

"I enjoy filling my paintings with color, light and depth. I also take pleasure in manipulating atmospheric conditions in order to capture a feeling or to set a mood. While my painting style fluctuates from realistic to painterly, the subjects of my watercolors come primarily from inspiration. I keep a camera in my car, just in case I find an irresistible scene that might become the subject of my next painting".

"I offer private classes in painting and conduct workshops in greeting card design. My paintings, prints and greeting cards are available directly from me. They can also be purchased locally at Carlsbad’s C.O.A.L Gallery (Carlsbad Oceanside Art League) and gift shops. I truly enjoy all of the opportunities that come from being a fine artist. I love to teach, participate in gallery exhibitions, and be asked to juror a show. I highly recommend the watercolor workshops that I have taken with such notables as: Terry Madden, Tom Lynch, Rikki Reinholtz, Duane Light, Gerald Brommer, Cathy Quiel, David Becker, and Walter Brunning".

"My professional memberships include: San Diego Watercolor Society, C.O.A.L. Gallery, BAE Industries Gallery, and Carlsbad Arts Association. I enjoy the theatre and ‘never come late’. Two of my absolute favorite artists are: G. Harvey and Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida".

The show runs from July 6 thru July 29.
Also view the COAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS on display during July.
The July Reception is Sunday, July 10, 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
