High School Art Show

The high school art show features work in all fine arts media from six high schools; Carlsbad, El Camino, Oceanside, Rancho Buena Vista, Vista and Army and Navy Academy. It is sponsored by the Carlsbad-Oceanside Art League who awards $1000.00 in awards. The work in this exhibit is wonderfully imaginative and creative, well executed and strong in content.
Robert Bedford "Track I" from Vista won Best Of Show for his sculpture using plaster and found objects. Soo Kim, from Carlsbad was awarded the Fox Watercolor award. One of the show stoppers is the 6 x 8 piece done by 154 El Camino students of John Sargent's Oyster Gathers of Cancale.
Besides giving students encouragement and confidence and the opportunity to show and get recognition for their talents, this show is especially important in a time when art programs are being cut from the schools. It is a chance for the community to see what these students are achieving in their art classes and that art is an important part of education. Many of these students may go on to have an art related career and others will find art to be an important outlet.
